His Holiness Pope Shenouda III, the 116th successor of St. Mark the Evangelist, established dioceses abroad to serve the growth of Coptic churches outside Egypt. The Southern United States Diocese was established in 1993, with His Grace Bishop Youssef appointed to oversee it.
